Dr. Robert Gary Litchford, 85, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019.  He was born in Los Angeles, California on June 22, 1934.  He travelled far and wide, but found his home in Spencer, Tennessee.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Military.  He worked as a Professor of Marine Biology at UT Chattanooga for more than 30 years. You could hear him laugh a mile away.  He was a beloved grandfather, father, husband, and friend.

Doc left behind a big family and wide circle of friends.  He is survived by his children Michael, Misty, and Mark; his grandchildren, Marah, Cohen and Violet; and great grandchildren Maia and Elijah; sister Margie Williams and family; former spouse and special friend Lisa Collins; a great deal of friends and family across the country; and many students and colleagues.  He is predeceased by daughter Manda Franklin; and wife Joyce Litchford.
