Spencer – Mr. Joel Franklin “Joe” Davis, 89, passed from this life Wednesday December 27, 2017 to rejoin his beloved wife Catherine, of 65 years. He passed away at his home in Spencer, Tennessee. Joel was born to Pike and Virginia Brock Davis in Van Buren County on February 29, 1928. Joe; Worked as an engineer at a copper factory in Ohio for 10 years. He moved back to Van Buren County to pursue his lifelong dream of farming in which he continued till 2011. He served on the board of directors for the Van Buren County Farm Bureau for many years.

 

 Joel was preceded in death by his parents Pike and Virginia Brock Davis; wife, Catherine Ruth Grissom Davis; brothers, William and wife Ersie Davis, Fred Davis; nephew, Darell Guy; niece, Sharon Guy.

 

Joel is survived by his sister, Laura Davis Guy of Spencer; sister-in-law, Jo Davis of Sparta; son, Larry and wife Jackie Davis of Spencer; daughters, Janice Davis Schipper and husband Rick Schipper of Joelton, Pamela Houk of Spencer; grandchildren, Robert (Andrea) Houk, of Fayetteville, NC, Juanita (Phillip) Brymer, Matthew (Stephanie) and Michael (Gina) Davis, Christy (Raymond) Johnson all of Spencer and Caitlin Schipper of Joelton, TN; great grandchildren, Cobin, Caden, Mika, Abigail, Gavin and Creed Davis, Zane Johnson; step-great grandchildren, Megan and Kristen Brymer; step-great great grandchildren, Skylee Brymer and Lainey Kilgore; several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday in the Layne Funeral Home chapel with Ministers Doug Benningfield and Gene Brock officiating with burial to follow in the Molloy Cemetery with pallbearers, Robert Houk, Matthew, Michael, Cobin, Caden and Lavaughn Davis, Raymond Johnson and Phillip Brymer.
