Obituary of Robert Keith Meeks

COALMONT- Robert K. Meeks 63 died Sunday February 21, 2010. He was a US Army Veteran, member of the Coalmont United Methodist Church, Sewanee Lodge #405 F&AM, Chattanooga Scottish Rite Bodies and the Alhambra Shrine. He worked 29 years at Wheland Foundry before being elected Sheriff of Grundy County in 1994 serving for 11 years retiring only because of his declining health. He was insrumental in establishing the Meth Task Force. He also served on the Coalmont City Commission and Coalmont Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mildred Brown Meeks; brother, Ronnie Meeks; sisters, Donna Lou Irvin and Barbara Jean Burrows. He is survived by his wife, Sharon "Sherry" Layne Meeks; son, Ryan (Heather) Meeks, Sequatchie, TN; daughter, Lisa (Troy) Dent, Palmer, TN; sister, Patsy (Ricky) McGinnis, Coalmont; grandchildren, Sierra, Kanai, Spencer and Chelsy; step-grandchildren, Michael and Stephanie. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday February 24, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Clayton Jones officiating with burial to follow in the Coalmont City Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation after 3:00 PM Till 10:00 PM Tuesday at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tennessee. A Masonic service will be held at 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Home Chapel.
