Altamont - Mrs. Dorothy M. Scott, 98, passed away Saturday January 23, 2015 at a Woodbury, Tennessee Nursing Home. She was born in Coalmont on September 8, 1916 to Alec Levi Hammers and Suzie Meeks Hammers who preceded her in death along with her brothers, Ben, Douglas, F.M., Alvin and Franklin Hammers; sisters, Georgia Sanders, Rose Keener, Agnes White and Eva Earsy. Husband, Hubert Huey Scott, Jr. She attended the Little Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Hubert H. Scott Jr., Flintstone, GA; daughers, Helen R. Cantrell, Woodbury, TN, Evelyn M. Coppinger, Altamont and Betty C. Williamson, Rock Island, TN; sisters, Myrtle Couey, Boaz, Alabama and Violet Lofty, Whitwell, TN; brother, James Hammers, Knoxville, TN; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Dal Barrett officiating with burial to follow in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 3:00 - 9:00 PM Sunday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, Tennessee. www.laynefuneralhome.com
