Obituary of Gerald T. Hitchcock

Gerald Truman Hitchcock, age 93, passed away peacefully Monday July 3, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Gerald was born in Bone Cave on May 21, 1930 to the late Morris and Leona Jaco Hitchcock.  He was a farmer and heavy equipment operator, long-time caretaker/board member of Long Cemetery and was of the Christian Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, wife; Mary Grissom Hitchcock, brothers; Leffie, Leard, Flavis, and Liston Hitchcock, sisters; Shirley Brady and Grace Drake, son-in-law; Mike Hawkins, great-granddaughter; Anna Peterson

Gerald is survived by his loving family; son Jerry Hitchcock (Silvana) of Rocklin, CA, daughter; Terry Thornton (John) of Bone Cave, TN, son; Michael Hitchcock (Christine) of Mesa, AZ, daughter; Marsha Hawkins of Cookeville, TN; brother; Morris (Jean) Hitchcock of Cleveland, TN, brother-in-law; Jack Grissom of Laurel Cove, sisters-in-law; Kathleen Hitchcock of Bone Cave, Aleta Grissom of Laurel Cove, TN., grandchildren; Julee Ellsworth (Dan), Bryce Hitchcock (Keeley), Mandy Hitchcock, Lori Jones (Patrick), Blake Hitchcock (Lauren), Brett Hitchcock (Emma), John Remus, Monica Rettke, Aaron Thornton (Jasmine), Tyler Thornton, Anna Thornton, Mariah Thornton, Noah Thornton (Amber), Matthew Hitchcock (Kimber), Jared Hitchcock (Kourtney), Rebecca Peterson (Scott), Elizabeth Holt (McKay), Emmalee Packer (Danny), Nathan Hitchcock, Tanner Hitchcock, Leah Hitchcock, Maryann Hitchcock, great-grandchildren; Layla Crawford, Olivia Crawford, Porter Goodwill, Chisum Goodwill, Baylor Hitchcock, Kyndal Hitchcock, Kimber Hitchcock,  Ceseley Ellsworth, Natalie Ellsworth, William Jones, Jack Jones, Samuel Jones, Luke Jones, Charlotte Hitchcock, Ruby Hitchcock, Arianna Rettke, Reese Rettke, Cam Rettke, Jack Thornton, Ella Thornton, Michael Peterson, Lauren Peterson, Maddie Peterson, Stuart Peterson, Maisy Holt, Tyson Hitchcock, Hallie Hitchcock, Lexi Hitchcock, Stetson Hitchcock, Jenna Packer, Savannah Packer and four more on the way. 

Funeral services will be held Friday July 7, 2023 at 1:00pm in the Layne Chapel. The family will be officiating Gerald’s service. Burial will follow in the Long Cemetery. Visitation times are Thursday July 6^th 4:00pm to 9:00pm and Friday July 7^th 10:00am till time of service at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Long Cemetery trust fund.
