Obituary of William Bruce Smith

Spencer, TN-William Bruce Smith, age 73, passed away Monday May 8, 2023 at Manchester Center for Rehabilitation & Healing from an extended illness. Bruce was a Chattanooga resident and a Van Buren County native born on March 24, 1950 to the late William “Bill” and Geneva Smith.  He was a 1968 graduate of Van Buren County High School, served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War, and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, wife; Nellie Ferguson Smith, son; Gregory Lee Smith, grandson; Noah Kingston Smith, brothers; Kenneth Gary Smith, Mark Allan Smith, sisters; Deborah (Dudley) Hodges and Peggy Lynn Smith.

Bruce is survived by, son; Jeffery Bruce Smith of Chattanooga, brother; LaVaughn Smith of McMinnville, sister; Brenda Smith Hatcher of Chattanooga, grandchildren; Gabrielle Bruce Smith, Gavin Miller and Robert Lee Webb. Many friends and extended family also survive.

A Graveside service will be held Thursday May 11, 2023 at 3:00pm (eastern time) at Chattanooga Memorial Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Webb officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Layne Funeral Home.  After the visitation there will be a procession to the cemetery.
