After a long period of time, I was lucky to reconnect with Eddie recently. We connected through Facebook. Our phone conversations were so reminiscent of our teenage years. We talked about things that happened 40 years ago. I suppose that's what old friends do when they meet up again...talk about old Toyota cars, girls, things we did as kids and how lucky we were to escape without injury.
We talked about family, our losses and our feelings. Eddie was struggling with these conversations as he had lost so much....his wife and recently one of his sons. These were tough talks, but ones that I believe we needed to have. I was honored that my old friend opened up to me and shared his thoughts and the current pain he was enduring....I cried.
Eddie and I were two peas in a pod as teenagers. We were both rebellious as hell....two redneck clowns sitting in the back of the room during algebra class. Cutting up, laughing, getting in trouble and enjoying every minute of it. Just look at Eddies high school photos....he had a smile that ran from ear to ear...do you really think he was stressed? I don't think so.
We last spoke a couple of months ago. He told me about his plans to build a cabin on some property he owned. He was going to send me the blueprints to show me the layout. I never received the floor plans. I suppose he was struggling.
Please know this: I miss him already and I'm struggling with this loss. Not only for myself, but for his family...His mom and Junior, his children, his sisters Teresa and Elaine, his cousins and everyone else who loved him. Although I moved away years ago, I still feel a great connection to all of his family. My heart and prayers are with all of you tonight.
Rest in Peace my old friend.
