So sorry for your, and our, loss. Jonathan was a truly nice guy and great photographer who set an example for young railfans with his safety and "no trespassing" talks at TVRM's Rail Camp. He will be missed in the railroad and first-responder community. RiP

So sad to hear about Jonathan. He was my go to train guy. Any questions, he always had the answers. I'm so glad I got to give him a couple of HO cabeese, to add to his collection. When he asked how much he owed me, I told him, nothing, just look at those cabeese and remember me when I'm gone. We laughed! I had no idea he would be the one gone and so shortly......

Tater was and still is a wonderful guy. He helped mentor me at 911 when I joined the Chattanooga Police dispatch team. My thoughts and prayers go out for him and his family.

I'm sorry to hear of Jonathan's death, and I am grateful to have worked with him over the years in dispatch. He often made me chuckle by some of the things he would say when I thought he wasn't paying attention. He will be missed.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Jonathan and I were good friends in the late 70's early 80's till I started working and was away most every day. We worked together on the Model Railroad at the Chattanooga Choo Choo and spent long hours talking and photographing trains. He was there when my daughter was born and came over to the house often. Work got in the way and we drifted to other things in our lives. I would see Jonathan from time to time, usually at a restaurant or beside the tracks somewhere. Jonathan was a good friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
We will meet you at the station when our train arrives.

I am saddened by this news. Nearly speechless. Jonathan "J-Guy" was a permanent fixture in the Chattanooga/Atlanta area for me during my trips for photography starting in the late 90's & was always a beacon of light despite any setback on the road. Once in a while, I'd see him here on my home turf in Florida with other members of "the bunch" we ran with at the time. We shared some very interesting times. I hadn't seen him in a couple years, but the shock of losing him is none the less a major blow in a year that has been full of heartbreak & turmoil. I take comfort knowing he will be at peace, looking over us that carry on with his memory. On one of his last visits, I specifically remember him mentioning going to the sugar cane fields around Lake Okeechobee, and on Saturday I just so happened to be in the same area, so I took the attached photo in his honor. I know J-Guy would be proud of this steam locomotive. Will see you on the other side, my friend.

I used to be a volunteer at TVRM and only met him a few times and always spotted him out railfanning around Ooltewah with the Hill brothers, no matter the weather or anything JGuy would always be out watching trains or seeing what was going on at TVRM.

JGuy was always a friend you could count on to be a copilot on a railfan trip. He was up to go anywhere and find anything running on steel rails. I first met him back in 2003 or so when I was attending college in Atlanta. With a semester with no Friday classes, we concocted a trip to go see the Pickens Railroad in SC. He drove down from Chattanooga, and then we set off to find U boats and any other goodies. We spent the day canvassing the SC/GA border area, getting numerous trains, and having a good time. Over the years, we went on many other trips, and he was always a happy person, even if the trains or weather were uncooperative. There wasn’t a mean bone in his body and his positive attitude was contagious. I think we will all miss him, and why we may be sad now, it means he brought us so much happiness before. With time, these wounds will heal, but the memories of him will be cherished forever.
